ST. PAUL—A Ramsey County judge says a public viewing area set up near the site of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul is sufficient as is.
Judge Kathleen Gearin says the area along West Seventh Street east of Xcel Energy Center compares favorably with what was set up for other national political conventions. And Gearin says it offers more space than what’s offered at this year’s Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Several lawsuits claimed the area restricts free speech because it confines demonstrators to an area that is too small.
Previous legal challenges to GOP convention-related restrictions on demonstrators have been turned back in federal court.
