Speakers at a U.S. House Democratic leadership press conference to announce plans at Denver’s Union Station for an energy policy were interrupted by about 20 John McCain supporters.
House Majority Whip James Clyburn and Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a strategy for American Energy Independence through renewable energy, mass transit and green infrastructure.
The McCain supporters chanted “Drill here, drill now” and attempted to drown out the democrats.
Clyburn, borrowing a line from Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, said he would treat the supporters with dignity.
Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel had the simplest and most direct message: “Two oil men in the White House for two terms equals four-dollar gas.”
