About 50 food-service employees lost their jobs with Monday’s closing of three Denver-area Black-Eyed Pea restaurants, company president Gary Suit said.

The firm, which operates in Colorado and Texas, is reviewing performance numbers for its other restaurants to see whether additional closures are necessary.

Labor costs, supply expenses and diminishing clientele because of gasoline prices all contributed to the closing of Black-Eyed Pea restaurants in Greenwood Village, Westminster and Parker, he said.

Management employees at the affected locations were relocated to other restaurants within the chain, and hourly employees were allowed to apply for existing openings.
