BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado is evaluating ways to improve distribution of emergency messages on campus, such as electronic message boards.

CU also is looking at outdoor public address systems and a quicker mass e-mail delivery system.

The ideas were in a memo CU Chancellor Bud Peterson wrote to faculty and employees that was detailed in Wednesday’s Camera newspaper.

CU implemented an emergency text-message system for cell phones last fall which it expects to expand to voice messages this year.

CU says about 35 percent of the campus population is enrolled in the free program.
