Getting your player ready...

“Panamap: Manhattan”($19.95, Urban Mapping) isn’t a book, of course — it’s a map, and for those who think that maps are cool, it’s the bomb. Remember those 3-D cards you used to get in cereal boxes that, when you turned them one way, they showed Tony the Tiger doing one thing, and then when you shifted the card slightly, he would move his hand and wave? Well, imagine that on a map, only one view shows the street grid, from Battery Park to 130th Street. Then, another view displays the subway lines with exits. A third shift of the view shows neighborhoods and well-known landmarks and sights. Six panels fold thinly enough to stash in a backpack or slim purse, and the whole thing is hardy enough and laminated to withstand a few spills of latte and some banging around. The back panels list popular dining, shopping, sights and museums. So far, the only other city option is Chicago, but expect more to come. Kyle Wagner
