The Colorado Department of Transportation began closing Interstate-25 between 6th Avenue and Interstate-70 around 5:30 p.m., as expected, in anticipation of Barack Obama’s democratic presidential nomination acceptance speech tonight at Invesco Field at Mile High.

“Traffic has been very light through the area this rush hour which will allow for a safe and speedy closure,” said CDOT spokeswoman Stacey Stegman, in a statement.

As of 5:30 p.m., the light traffic on the broader stretch of highway was evident, with only a few cars in sight along I-25 at any point between downtown and the Tech Center.

The closure is anticipated to last until at least 9 p.m.
