People planning to attend Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field were already lining up shortly after 11 a.m. for shuttles at Coors Field to take them to the event.

Although the doors to Invesco weren’t to open until 1 p.m. and Obama not scheduled to speak until 8 p.m., people were eager to get to the venue and anxious about what they’d encounter when they got there.

At about 11:30 a.m. more than 100 buses were lined up in a parking lot across the street from Coors Field, and were picking up light loads of passengers at a stop at 22nd and Blake streets.

Meanwhile there was plenty of parking at Lot A next to the ballpark and short lines of cars going in.

Some people were having trouble finding the entrance and others groused that there was inadequate signage or instruction for parking and the shuttles.

a problem.

“We had no idea how to get to (Invesco Field). We heard I-25 was going to be closed and we don’t know how to get around without the Interstate,” said Dan Glick, visiting form Arizona with his wife Edwina.

The Glicks said they got off to an early start because of the rumors of intense security.

“The fear factor is too much,” Dan Glick said.

However, Edwina said she understood security concerns and was willing to wait.

Others had few problems or complaints. Tony Gray from Chicago and Mark Riley of New York said they were given good instructions and had no trouble parking, though they were unsure where to pick up the shuttle.

Riley says he has been going to Democratic National Conventions since 1976 and said this one was going well.

“This has been pretty smooth,” said Gray.

Shaun and Sarah Fischler were hurrying to meet friends and said they just planned to make a day of going to the event.
