Aurora Police are investigating a multi-vehicle accident early Thursday at the intersection of South Parker Road and East Quincy Avenue that resulted in one death.
The accident, which occurred about 6:10 a.m., happened when a 2009 Dodge Journey rear-ended a motorized Honda scooter, according to Aurora Police. The scooter was behind a 2002 KIA Spectra which was behind a 1998 Ford Escort. The vehicles were stopped in the rightmost left turn lane going southbound on South Parker Road, police said.
The driver of the scooter was ejected on impact and he died at the scene.
The Dodge Journey then struck the rear of the KIA, causing the KIA to collide into the rear of the Ford, said police.
The sole occupant of the Dodge Journey then ran from his vehicle into the nearby Cherry Creek State Park, before returning to the scene of the accident. He was taken into custody and is facing felony traffic charges.
His name has not been released.
The drivers of the FORD and KIA suffered no apparent injuries, but were transported to an Aurora hospital for observation due to the extensive damage caused to their vehicles, police said.
