The 17th-ranked Colorado State women’s volleyball team extended its home winning streak, defeating the University of Denver in three games Saturday in the Hilton Classic.
CSU downed the Pioneers 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 in winning its 16th-straight home match, dating to last season. The Rams also beat Arkansas on Friday in their season opener.
“We ended up winning because we blocked, and in long rallies we stuck with it,” CSU coach Tom Hilbert said. CSU was set to face Eastern Washington late Saturday night to conclude the tournament.
CU captures Mississippi State Classic.
Colorado swept through two matches in winning the Mississippi State Volleyball Classic in Starkville, Miss.
The Buffs (3-0) defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 25-13, 25-11, 25-9, then followed by beating Mississippi State 25-19, 25-21, 25-21. “We played some good teams and the team really stepped up,” CU coach Pi’i Aiu said.
Cowgirls lose to Portland State.
Portland State rallied to defeat Wyoming in five sets at the Corvallis Invitational in Oregon, winning 18-25, 29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 15-13. The Cowgirls dropped to 0-2.
CSU men win exhibition in Canada.
Marcus Walker’s 20 points led the Colorado State men’s basketball team to a 98-64 win over Fraser Valley on Saturday in the first of three exhibition games in Vancouver.
