Tim Tebow, Florida: The defending Heisman Trophy winner hooked up with Louis Murphy for a 48-yard score but was a supporting player to start his junior season. Tebow finished Saturday’s game with the fewest completions, attempts and yards of his career. He was only 9-of-14 passing for 137 yards.
Pat White, West Virginia: Threw a career-high five touchdown passes and set personal marks for attempts and completions. White went 25-for-33 passing for 208 yards and broke Marc Bulger’s school record for career total offense. “Patrick White was on target — bull’s-eye, bull’s-eye — all day,” Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart said.
Chris Wells, Ohio State: Injured his right foot and was carted off the field during the third quarter of the second-ranked Buckeyes’ opener against Youngstown State. X-rays were negative, but Wells’ status remained unknown.
