MEEKER, Colo.—Rain is expected to help slow the growth of a 971-acre wildfire burning near Meeker.
Rain began falling Sunday morning and it’s expected to continue through Monday.
Firefighters are working to contain the east side of the fire near private property. But the west side is being allowed to burn.
On the east side, the fire is now 50 percent contained.
The fire is burning seven miles northwest of Meeker in the Windy Gulch Wilderness Study Area. It’s one of several that were started by lightning in northwest Colorado last week.
