ESTES PARK — A 34-year-old Estes Park man was killed when a semi-truck crossed into his lane on U.S. 36 about 6 miles from Estes Park Monday.

According to investigators, Gerardo Rodriguez was driving west when the eastbound semi, driven by David Collins, 52, of Morrison, crossed into oncoming traffic.

The semi knocked Rodriguez’s mini van into a car driven by Komlyeva Vitaliva, 37, of Thornton, who was not injured.  A passenger in the semi, Marie Collins, 52, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

David Collins had minor injuries. He was charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing serious bodily injury.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
