COLUMBIA, Mo. — Jeremy Maclin left the Missouri sideline on a cart in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s victory over Illinois, believing he had broken his left ankle.
“I could feel a little bit of popping but that could have come from my ankle being a little swollen,” Maclin said Monday. “At the time, I kind of had thoughts going through my head that something could really be wrong with it.”
It was a false alarm for the All-American who set an NCAA freshman record for all-purpose yards last season after missing the 2006 season with a knee injury. He expects to be in the lineup this Saturday against Southeast Missouri State if he can shake off a sprain.
Another injured player, safety William Moore, was in a walking cast with a sprained foot. Pinkel said most likely he’d be held out.
Oklahoma says athletes in brawl were victims
NORMAN, Okla. — At least two Oklahoma athletes were injured during a brawl Sunday at a local nightclub that police said involved guns, knives and tire irons.
The university characterized the unidentified players as victims in the incident at the Sooner Knights club.
“There was an incident where a couple of our athletes overall were assaulted. Outside of that, there’s an ongoing investigation, so until we know more, I’m not going to confirm or not confirm anything,” coach Bob Stoops said.
Meanwhile, defensive end John Williams might not return to play his final season because he’s “mentally having a hard time staying with it,” Stoops said.
