As friends sitting on a porch scattered when a Ford Escort smashed into parked cars and careened towards them, one man stood still and was fatally struck Sunday night.

Adrian Pizana-Rodriguez, 22, was later arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide in the fatal accident, said Lt. Mike Broadhead, Littleton police spokesman.

Several people were standing and talking at about 10:30 p.m. on a porch at an apartment at 368 W. Powers Ave. Broadhead said the suspect was driving fast westbound on West Powers when he lost control of his car, which struck several parked cars before veering toward the porch, he said. Several people darted out of the way in time, but the victim didn’t move, Broadhead said.

“Most of them were able to get out of the way but one guy didn’t see it coming,” he said.

Police are trying to identify the victim, who is an illegal immigrant, he said.

The suspect also is an undocumented worker and had a warrant for his arrest for driving without a license.

Pizana-Rodriguez had red watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol, Broadhead said.

Littleton police conducted a blood test on him. It will be about two weeks before the test results come back, he said.

Several witnesses told police that Pizana-Rodriquez had been drinking all day Sunday, Broadhead said.
