DENVER—Denver Public Health officials say an employee of TIAA-CREF has been placed on home quarantine after being diagnosed with an active case of tuberculosis.
Denver Health spokeswoman Dee Martinez said Tuesday that the patient is receiving outpatient care. Co-workers are being checked for exposure to TB. Investigators also are checking air ducts at the TIAA-CREF office, where the financial services company has about 1,600 employees.
Martinez says that with medication, the patient is expected to recover.
TB attacks the lungs. It can spread through the air when a person with active TB coughs or sneezes.
Last year the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded 13,293 TB cases in the United States.
