Members of the Colorado Army National Guard were up early this morning on their way to the Gulf Coast to help out in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav.
About 30 personnel from the 2nd Battalion of the 135th Aviation unit left Buckley Air Force Base to help civilian authorities “with general aviation support, which could include search-and-rescue operations,” the Guard said in a news release.
“These citizen-soldiers are truly great Americans,” Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the adjutant general of Colorado, said in a statement. “Over the past few years, they have responded to disasters across Colorado and the nation, as well as having supported Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their tireless devotion to duty is truly inspirational.”
