FORT COLLINS — Can television ratings save the Colorado-Colorado State series?
CU’s 38-17 triumph over the Rams on Sunday night set an FSN Rocky Mountain ratings record for any regular-season game in any sport. The Denver market turned a 12.3 rating and 23 share of the audience with 180,810 homes tuned in. The previous rating best was the 2004 CU-CSU game, at 11.3.
The CU-CSU series holds the top three spots for highest-rated college football games on the Denver-based regional network.
The future of the series is in doubt after the 2010 game, which is scheduled for CSU’s Hughes Stadium.
Injury update.
Two CSU starters sat out practice with ankle injuries suffered against CU. Offensive guard Shelley Smith twisted his ankle on the final play of the game, but he is expected to play Saturday against Sacramento State. Redshirt freshman linebacker Mychal Sisson was in a protective boot at practice. He’s listed as questionable.

Rams quarterback Billy Farris spent Monday glued to CNN for Hurricane Gustav updates. His family lives in Baton Rouge, La., which was hit by the storm. He said his parents told him there was only a little damage to their home, from fallen trees.
