Quarterback Jay Cutler said the Broncos will just have to “make do” without suspended receiver Brandon Marshall in Monday’s season opener at Oakland.
“We’d like to have him. I mean, obviously we’d like to have him for a big game,” Cutler said Wednesday. “He’s an offensive weapon that you’re not going to find very often in this league. He does some stuff on the field that is amazing.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell originally suspended Marshall three games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Marshall appealed and the suspension and last week it was decreased to one game.
“We’re going to have to make due — make due with the receivers we got, (plus) the tight ends and the running game,” Cutler said. “We’re going to all have to pull together to make up for it.”
Overall, Cutler said he feels good about himself and Denver’s relatively young team.
“Good preseason, you know, but we’ll see what happens in Game 1 and the rest of the season,” Cutler said. “Lot of rookies, lot of guys from different teams first time in this offense, and defense, so (we’ll keep it) basic, do what we do well and go from there.”
