FORT LUPTON, Colo.—A handgun and bullets have been found at Fort Lupton High School, prompting a police sweep of the campus and searches of students’ bags and backpacks.
School Superintendent Mark Payler says a bullet was jammed in the gun, and it could not have been fired.
Payler says the gun and ammunition were found in a boys’ lavatory Tuesday. Officials locked down the high school and adjacent middle and elementary schools while the grounds were searched. Nothing was found.
About 1,700 students were in the three schools at the time.
Meanwhile, a single shotgun shell was found at Centaurus High School in Lafayette on Wednesday. Principal Rhonda Haniford says a police search of the school and parking lot turned up nothing else, and officials decided against a lockdown.
