CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE — Kent Denver’s 4-3 decision of Cherry Creek in a boys tennis dual meet Wednesday was historic. The Sun Devils earned their first-ever victory over the Bruins, who now stand 390-2 since 1970.

“There have been other years when I thought we were good enough to beat them and something just went wrong,” Sun Devils coach Randy Ross said.

It halted Cherry Creek’s streak of 74 dual meets won in succession; the Bruins own the national mark at 316. Even more stunning was Kent Denver sweeping the doubles, the Bruins’ forte for four decades.

“It was hard on them,” Bruins coach Kirk Price said of his players, who had just one experienced doubles player compete.
