Boulder officials are warning residents about a a car repair scam that targets older victims.

Police said the suspects approach victims in parking lots offering discount auto repairs.

After convincing the victims their cars need work and taking their money, the suspects vanish, police said in a news release.

Three people have been scammed, and others have been approached. Boulder said there have also been reports of the scam in other communities north of Denver.

Police advise that people who are contacted by anyone offering to do auto repairs under similar circumstances should call 911 or 303-441-3333.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call Detective Bob Wands at 303-441-3323 or Boulder County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted via the Crime Stoppers Web site at .
