GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Mesa County coroner says a body found along the main line of the Grand Valley Canal in Grand Junction is that of an 81-year-old dementia patient who’d been reported missing.

Afton Worley was last seen at her home on Saturday. She was reported as a missing person Tuesday morning when the front door of her home was found open and she could not be located.

Hours later, passers by discovered the body of a woman near the canal.

The Mesa County coroner’s office says Worley died of exposure, and that her death was an accident.

Worley’s body was discovered just a few blocks from her home in Grand Junction’s Walnut Park subdivison.
