The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of inappropriate touching by a counselor at YMCA’s Camp Shady Brook, authorities say.
No one has been arrested since the allegation was first made in July, authorities say.
A male counselor is the subject of the investigation, according to Cocha Heyden, sheriff’s spokeswoman.
When camp authorities were notified about the allegation, the accused employee was removed from his position, said Wendy Brez, YMCA spokeswoman.
“We’re working with investigators to find the end result,” Brez said. “We’re doing everything we can. It’s an open investigation.”
Investigators have spoken to camp employees, alleged victims and other possible witnesses, Heyden said. The purported victim is someone who attended the camp, she said.
The camp is located 2 miles south of Deckers, she said.
Children from 5 to 17 attend the residential camp for different periods of time through the summer, Brez said. Kids can learn horsemanship, archery and go swimming and canoeing, she said.
