More than 70 former Colorado Division of Wildlife employees have signed a letter endorsing Mark Udall in his U.S. Senate bid.

Representing various political affiliations, the signees cited Udall for his voting record in the Colorado legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives in support of wildlife values.

The signees represent every discipline within the agency and include two former directors.

Salida fly celebs.

A lineup of notables including Karl Mecklenburg, Steve Foley, Dave Bliss, Don Puterbaugh, Dale Darling, Ernie Bjorkman, Eldridge Hardie, Char Bloom and Dave Preston will participate in the Arkansas River Celebrity Flyfishing 2008 on Friday and Saturday in Salida.

Gov. Bill Ritter will attend a Friday banquet at which paid participants will bid to fish with celebrities in the charity event. The affair includes a live auction. For information, 719-239-0085 or flyfish@salida.net.

Hunting debate.

Kent Ingram and Bob Goodnough, board members of the Colorado Wildlife Federation, will engage Dave Crawford, former executive director of Rocky Mountain Animal Defense, in a discussion, “Hunting: Blood Sport or Wildlife Management Tool,” at 7 p.m. Monday at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.

The event at the Gates Common Room, Palmer Hall, 1025 N. Cascade Ave., is the first in the free State of the Rockies speaker series at the college.

Four subsequent events will feature the Poudre River, wolf reintroduction, Roan Plateau energy development and Yellowstone bison. For information, .
