A driver for Yellow Cab Co. was killed early Saturday when a speeding motorist ran a stop sign and T-boned the taxi, Denver police said today.
Killed was cab driver Solomon Abraham, 30, of Denver.
Darian Blackwell of Aurora was arrested for investigation of running the stop sign and driving under the influence.
Blackwell was driving a 1996 Dodge Stratus, according to police. Abraham was driving a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria.
According to investigators, Blackwell was speeding northbound on Williams Street at about 1:30 a.m. in a posted 25-mph zone approaching East 18th Avenue.
Abraham was westbound on East 18th Avenue approaching Williams Street going about 30 mph, the speed limit.
Police say Blackwell failed to stop at a stop sign on Williams Street and struck Abraham in the middle of the intersection.
The impact sent Abraham’s cab spinning out of control over the sidewalk and into a yard while Blackwell’s car smashed into tree.
The Denver coroner’s office reported that Abraham died of blunt-force injuries.
