ST. PAUL, Minn.—Authorities in Minneapolis and St. Paul say they will review police tactics used during last week’s Republican National Convention.
Officials also say they will investigate complaints of excessive use of force.
St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington says his department’s strategy evolved day-to-day. For example, after police learned that protesters were trying to get police to chase them around, the police began blocking people into one area where they couldn’t run around.
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says he’s proud of how officers handled protests in his city. But he says he’ll assess the police response. Rybak’s spokesman Jeremy Hanson says it isn’t yet clear exactly what the review will entail.
More than 800 people were arrested during the convention.
