“The American Veterans Traveling Tribute,” including memorials dedicated to those lost in World War II, the Vietnam War, 9-11 and the Iraq War, will be on display Sept. 19-21 in a grassy, wooded part of the campus at New Hope Ministries at Sherican Boulevard and Kentucky Avenue On Sept. 20, the City of Lakewood is hosting a parade, starting at Alameda Avenue and Harlan Street, and proceeding to the campus of New Hope Ministries. Events associated with the traveling tribute visit will be outdoors and indoors and include: the reading of the names of more than 4,000 military servicemen and women who hae died in the Iraq War; and a presentation, “Not Forgotten 2008,” which will be perforemd at 7 p.m. each night of the visitation in the sanctuary of New Hope Ministries. A World Trade Center 9/11 survivor will discuss his experience during an assembly at 8:45 a.m. today at Mountain Vista High School, 10585 Mountain Vista Ridge, Highlands Ranch.

Daughters of the American Revolution is joining the Aurora Fire Department and the Aurora Police Department to bring a ceremony to two Aurora schools. It includes a flag presentation, the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem. Every student will hold a small American flag, donated by Graebel Co. The first ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Century Elementary School, 2500 S. Granby Way; the second ceremony is at 10:30 a.m. at Jewell Elementary School, 14601 E. Jewell Ave.

The fourth annual Denver Metro Fire Fighters 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb (organized by the Denver Fire Department) will be Thursday at the Qwest Building in downtown Denver. As a testament to the courage and sacrifice made by the first responders in the World Trade Center attacks, 343 local firefighters will climb 110 flights of stairs in their memory. The World Trade Center towers each had 110 flights of stairs. The Qwest Building is 54 stories tall. Firefighters will begin in the basement and climb to the roof for a 55-story climb. They will take a elevator to the basement and climb again. Firefighters looking to test themselves will be in full gear and carry equipment. On the second climb of the building, they will use a self- contained breathing apparatus.

Littleton is having a brief Patriot Day ceremony at 7:45 a.m. Thursday at the outside flagpole at the Littleton Center, 2255 W. Berry Ave. The Littleton Police Department Honor Guard will present the colors; the Littleton Fire and Rescue Honor Guard will ring the Return to Quarters with the traditional bell; a master of ceremonies will share facts from 9/11; Steve Woodworth will perform taps; and there will be a singing of “God Bless America.” The event is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Pat Hannon Post No. 4666 and the American Legion George C. Evans Post No. 103 in conjunction with Littleton and its Police and Fire Rescue departments.
