GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A man who was awaiting sentencing on burglary and auto theft convictions had a three hour headstart before guards discovered him missing from Mesa County jail in Grand Junction.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says 40-year-old Shane Edward Johnson of Clifton escaped early Tuesday morning. Authorities say Johnson hid in an excerise yard and used deception to make it appear he was sleeping in his bunk.

Suervellance video shows he may have escaped from the yard at midnight. Guards discovered him missing at 3 a.m.

Johnson is also wanted on a warrant out of Nevada and is considered dangerous.

Authorities want to question his wife, 46-year-old Marilynne Ann Johnson of Colorado Springs but haven’t been able to find her.
