Kahne will not contend for the championship despite winning twice in the regular season. Some might think that is not fair, considering five Chase drivers haven’t won a race this year. But consider this: Besides his two wins, Kahne had just one other top-five finish, fewest among the top 13. Clearly, Kahne wasn’t a consistent front-runner, and that cost him a shot at the title.
