I need to cover a window, but I hate curtains. They seem stuffy and old- fashioned, and blinds seem too cold. Could you suggest a more modern window treatment?
There are many great window coverings besides typical drapery or blinds.
Natural woven shades have become very popular. These can be made into roman shades, which are flat but fold into neat pleats when raised, and can complement just about any decorating style.
What’s more, window coverings are evolving. You can now do large-panel screens in natural wovens or just about any fabric. You can do panel screens or romans shades in more than one fabric. For instance, the top half of the panel might be a very sheer material that lets in light but doesn’t take away your privacy. You can also use a very sheer natural woven or fabric shade, then add an additional rollershade behind it to have even more control over light and privacy.
Window coverings have become very diverse. So it might help to consult a professional, which will make the process less stressful and insure a pleasing result. — Trish Bradley, co-owner, Carter Didlake (manufacturers of Hartmann & Forbes window coverings), 303-794-4722
