A Denver police officer was seriously injured early Wednesday in a motorcycle accident near Federal Boulevard and West Sixth Avenue, authorities said.
The name of the officer involved in the 4:50 a.m. accident was not immediately available, said Lt. Phil Champagne, Denver fire spokesman.
The officer, taken to Denver Health Medical Center with a broken leg, was in serious but stable condition, said Detective Sharon Hahn, Denver police spokeswoman.
The accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed, but the driver of a gold sedan faces a possible charge of careless driving causing injury, Hahn said.
The officer, with more than 20 years of experience on the force, was on duty riding his police motorcycle north in the 500 block of Federal Boulevard when a car going south on Federal turned east on West Sixth Avenue and struck the motorcycle.
Southbound Federal Boulevard was closed for about three hours while the accident was investigated and cleaned up.
