JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — North Carolina officials say a Mexican court has approved returning to the U.S. a Marine accused of killing a pregnant colleague. Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said Thursday that he expects to have Cpl. Cesar Laurean in custody in about a week.

Laurean, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, 20. Her remains were found in Laurean’s backyard near Camp Lejeune, where both served as clerks.

Laurean was arrested in Mexico in April.
