NEW YORK — Southern California is now a no-doubt-about-it No. 1 in the AP top 25, and there’s a new No. 2 as Georgia slipped again.
The Trojans’ resounding 35-3 victory over Ohio State on Saturday night made them an overwhelming No. 1 pick in the media poll.
USC received 61 first-place votes and 1,596 points Sunday. The Trojans had 33 first-place votes last week.
Oklahoma moved past Georgia into the No. 2 slot. The Bulldogs barely got past South Carolina 14-7 on Saturday and the Sooners notched their third consecutive blowout victory, winning 55-14 at Washington.
Georgia is the first preseason No. 1 to drop that far after starting 3-0 since Oklahoma in 1985, when the Sooners also fell to No. 3 after winning their first three games.
“I’m really not worried about it,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said Sunday. “We can’t control it.”
