A man and a woman were found shot to death inside their home near Rangely this afternoon, but investigators are saying little else about the motive or preliminary evidence.

Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s deputies went to the home after the man did not show up at work and his co-workers were unable to get an answer at the door. The couple’s vehicles were still parked in front of their home on Rio Blanco County 102 about a mile west of Rangely, near the Utah state line.

When deputies arrived, they went inside and found the man and woman dead, each with at least one gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities are not releasing their names pending positive identification and notification of their next of kin.

The investigation inside the home began about 5 p.m., said Rio Blanco County Undersheriff Michael Joos. His investigators and those with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are ruling nothing out, he said.

“This is still a very active investigation,” Joos said at 8:30 p.m. “Our personnel and CBI investigators are still at the scene, so it would be premature to speculate about anything.”
