LIMON — The resident truth in Class 1A football furthered its dominance Friday with a convincing showing as Colorado schoolboy play nears midseason.

Akron rolled Limon 44-7 at Lloyd Gaskill Field in The Denver Post game of the week in a result that wasn’t much different than when the teams met for the championship a year ago. The Rams, who improved to 4-0, have outscored the Badgers 90-21 over eight quarters.

Ranked No. 1 in The Denver Post/9News 1A poll, the two-time defending state champions have won 30 games in succession.

Also billed as a game that will be a gauge of sorts for the rest of the season, guess who remains the favorite.

The third-ranked Badgers (3-1) got a 75-yard run from scrimmage from quarterback Matt Brown on the game’s first play to set up a touchdown, then Akron took complete control.

“We came out a little overhyped and we were out of position, but we stopped them the rest of the way,” Rams senior Dylan Davisson said. “Our main brand of football is just to hit people in the mouth.”

Akron scored touchdowns on its first four possessions, owned the line of scrimmage, received terrific play from a deep group of ball carriers, displayed a passing game and put a bunch of licks on the Badgers.

Chance Friedly, the spinner in the Rams’ single-wing attack, was brilliant with his ball-handling as well as throwing three touchdown passes in the first half. In building a 25-7 lead, the Rams also ate a bunch of clock.

In short, the Rams never blinked.

“That Brown kid’s a great athlete,” Rams coach Brian Christensen said. “(The Badgers) came out and had us plenty worried. That’s one of the things we tell the kids, ‘You can’t ever flinch.’ ”

The Badgers, with 16 new starters from a year ago, appreciated the experience.

“About 90 percent of our kids haven’t seen their offense and it’s very confusing,” Limon coach Mike O’Dwyer said. “We’re going to learn a lot from this game.”
