Retro cowboys and broncs practically leapfrom the whimsical fabric on Cry Baby Ranch’s commissioned Cecelia bags.
The bags are stylish enough for urban cowgirls, and their seat-belt-webbing straps make them sturdy enough for rodeo moms as well as rough-riding desk jockeys.
They’re one of a kind, a private label that Denver’s Tutela Handbags makes for Cry Baby Ranch. The playful Western fabric is a reproduction of the vintage 1940s/’50s Western design that forms the bedrock of Roxanne Thurman’s Cry Baby Ranch inventory.
Thurman met Tutela Handbags co-owner Christiane White through Susan Skinner, a mutual friend whose jewelry is a Cry Baby Ranch staple. White was carrying one of her bags, which employs whimsical vintage-inspired fabric.
Thurman loved it. She immediately asked if White could make some bags using fabric from Thurman’s stash of vintage barkcloth. Cry Baby Ranch carries an exclusive line of Western-themed Tutela bags — a large messenger bag and a top-zippered carryall ($98 each), and three smaller bags, including a skinny wallet clutch ($18 to $28 each).
