The calendar says today is the first day of autumn, but the thermometer still says its summer.
Today in Denver the National Weather Service expects mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 80s.
This evening it will get cloudy, with a 10 percent chance of thunderstorms. The forecast calls for mostly clear skies after midnight with temperatures in the upper 40s.
More of the same comes tomorrow, with a high in the upper 70s to 80 degrees with sunny skies.
Normal temperatures for Sept. 22 are in the mid 70s, although in 1946 a trace of snow fell downtown on that date. That was not as dramatic as Sept. 22, 1895, when the NWS reports that Denver got 11 inches of snow.
The record high of 89 degrees for Sept. 22 was recorded in 1953.
