LONGMONT, Colo.—Authorities say driver error and excessive speed are suspected as factors in a two-vehicle crash near Longmont that killed two teenagers.

Seventeen-year-old Kyle J. Metcalf of Longmont died Saturday from injuries suffered in the Friday night crash. A passenger, 18-year-old Caitlin Anne Epple of Longmont, died at the scene.

The Colorado State Patrol says Metcalf was the driver of a Subaru Legacy that hit a Ford F-350 pickup pulling a camper trailer near Colorado 66 and North 61st Street.

Two people in the pickup, 44-year-olds Gregory C. Sutliff and Mary J. Sutliff of Brighton, were taken to a Longmont hospital with moderate injuries.

Longmont High School will have extra counselors on hand Monday.

Metcalf was a senior. Epple was a recent graduate.
