DENVER—Denver is among a handful of cities still seeing an increase in immigration even as the slumping economy has spurred a decrease nationwide.

Census Bureau figures released Tuesday show that more immigrants are living in Denver in 2007 than in 2006, but less are living in Colorado as a whole.

Colorado’s immigrant population dropped by 0.9 percent last year to 485,170.

The data shows that 1.8 million people immigrated to the U.S. in 2006 and only about a half million in 2007.

Analysts say the economy and stricter enforcement of immigration laws has led to the decrease.
