DENVER—Prosecutors say they won’t file charges against an officer who was videotaped pushing a protester to the ground during the Democratic convention in Denver.
District Attorney Mitch Morrissey says 24-year-old Alicia Forrest of Los Angeles disobeyed warnings to back away before Denver police officer Scott Stewart shoved her with his baton and said, “Back up, b—-.”
The incident was videotaped by a Rocky Mountain News photographer.
Morrissey says Forrest grabbed the baton and pushed it away before Stewart pushed her.
Forrest, a member of the group Code Pink, was among 154 people arrested before and during the convention Aug. 25-28.
Her attorney, Dan Recht, calls the decision not to prosecute the officer “outrageous.” He says she hasn’t decided whether to file a civil suit.
