Biffle was a championship afterthought when the playoffs began two weeks ago. He was winless on the season and stood ninth among the 12 playoff drivers. But victories in the first two playoff races have slingshotted him to second, tied with Jimmie Johnson, and just 10 points behind Carl Edwards. Officially, Biffle is third, because he has two fewer wins than Johnson’s four. Still, Biffle is right on the doorstep of what would be his first Cup championship.
