Five months after a fatal prison riot at the U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar has asked the Bureau of Prisons for an update on the investigation and for public disclosure of the incident report upon completion.

Two inmates were shot to death by guards, and five prisoners were injured.

On Tuesday, Salazar sent a letter about the April riot to Bureau of Prisons Director Harley Lappin, requesting a full briefing on the incident once an investigation is complete.

“I am specifically interested in the recommendations made pertaining to staffing levels at the USP, as well as the reforms the BOP intends to make in light of these findings,” Salazar’s letter says.
