WESTMINSTER, Colo.—Two 13-year-old girls are recovering from injuries suffered when they were struck by a car while walking in a marked crosswalk near their Westminster school.
The eighth graders were walking across a street in front of Moore Middle School when they were hit at 7:17 a.m. Thursday.
Westminster police spokeswoman Stephanie Topkoff says one girl was taken to The Children’s Hospital in Aurora with leg injuries and abrasions. Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman Lynn Setzer says the second student suffered minor injuries and was released to her parents.
The driver of the car, 23-year-old Cassandra Miller, was cited for running a red light.
Topkoff says it appears Miller could not see the red light because the sun was shining in her eyes.
