JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Colorado Springs man is dead and a woman seriously injured after a motorcycle malfunction around 4 p.m. Saturday that sent the two careening off Jefferson County Road 26 about 10 miles south of Pine Junction.
Brian L. Hartzell, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Melissa Crabtree, 30, of Larkspur, was airlifted to Denver Health.
Troopers believe a mechanical failure caused Hartzell to lose control.
