Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said today he expects starting defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson to play Sunday at Kansas City.

Robertson did not practice Wednesday because of a knee injury. He participated in some drills Thursday and today.

“Still a little sore, but still managed to take half (of the repetitions), so we’ll see how he’s doing tomorrow,” Shanahan said.

Another defensive tackle, Josh Shaw, who is the backup to starter Marcus Thomas, will not play against the Chiefs because of a groin injury. Asked if depth is a concern at the position, Shanahan said: “No, we’ve got some depth there. We still have some depth. We’ll just see how (Robertson) is tomorrow.”

Kenny Peterson is the backup to Robertson. The fifth defensive tackle on the roster is Nic Clemons.

Meanwhile, tight end Nate Jackson sustained a minor rib cage injury today, but said he should be fine.

“Just not the type of thing you want happen on a Friday, two days before the game,” Jackson said.

Asked about the mood of the team, Jackson said: “It’s great. We feel good about what we’re doing, and have a good plan, and dedicated to the fact that we need to prepare hard every week, and take all our opponents seriously, and play our best football.”

The Chiefs (0-3) have struggled in all areas, but Shanahan is still wary.

“All you’ve got to do is be a little off-key and not ready to play and that’s how upsets are made,” he said.
