EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Wide receiver Anquan Boldin gave the Cardinals quite a scare Sunday, getting carted off the field after being hit helmet-to-helmet trying to make a touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter of a lopsided loss to the Jets.
Boldin, who had 10 catches and a touchdown Sunday, was first hit in the back, then took a shot to his helmet from Eric Smith trying to catch a pass from Kurt Warner with 27 seconds remaining in the Cardinals’ 56-35 loss.
Both Boldin and Smith fell to the turf, and Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald immediately waved to the sideline for help.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Boldin was alert and was moving his extremities. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York for what Whisenhunt said were precautionary reasons.
After being attended to for several minutes, Boldin was immobilized and placed on a stretcher before he was carted off the field. Smith was able to get up after a few moments.
Boldin was talking to his teammates coming off the field and going into the locker room.
“He asked to get up, and the doctors won’t let him,” Whisenhunt said.
Rodgers injures shoulder.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers hurt his right shoulder during a loss to the Buccaneers, and the team doesn’t expect to know how serious the injury is until today.
Rodgers, who missed two series in the fourth quarter, thinks he may have separated the shoulder.
Jones’ outburst costly.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was fined $25,000 by the NFL for publicly criticizing referee Ed Hochuli.
Jones told reporters two weeks ago that Hochuli was one of the most criticized officials. The owner followed that up on his weekly radio show with comments about how Hochuli’s crew calls a lot of penalties.
Palmer passes the time.
Bengals QB Carson Palmer sat out a loss to the Browns because of inflammation in his passing elbow, an injury the team didn’t reveal until late in the week. When he’ll be able to play is hard to say.
“It’s not bad,” said Palmer, who was listed as the emergency quarterback.
Bears’ Lloyd goes down.
Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd left the Bears’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles because of a knee injury.
