DENVER—Colorado has won a $2 million grant to help veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, brain injuries or similar disorders who are entering the criminal justice system.

The state Department of Human Services says its behavioral health division expects to receive $400,000 annually over the next five years.

The money from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration would go to a project that aims to reduce the number of veterans with trauma spectrum disorders entering the criminal justice system.

The department says the project hopes to serve about 1,540 veterans over the life of the grant.
