Sunday’s Red Rock Scramble in Lyons offers runners gorgeous views, quiet trails and two ways to indulge their social conscience.

The event, which has 5-mile and 5-kilometer options, is sponsored by the Colorado Indian Bar Association, with proceeds going toward scholarships for Native American students attending law schools in Colorado.

The race also aims to be Colorado’s greenest race ever. Renewable energy credits will be purchased to offset the emissions generated by everyone driving to the event. Forks, spoons and fluid cups used to stage the event will be compostable.

“One thing we have not figured out yet is how to provide race numbers that are reusable or recyclable,” said race director David Selden. “But that will be a new challenge for us next year.”
