Fire crews are battling a 20-acre blaze in Larimer County by ground and by air this evening.

The Quillan Gulch fire started today about 2 miles south of the community of Drake near Rocky Mountain National Park and the Big Thompson River.

The cause of the fire is believed to be lightning.

Additional crews have been ordered for tomorrow. No evacuations have been necessary, with the fire burning in the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest.

More than two dozen firefighters from the park, the U.S. Forest Service and Larimer County Emergency Services are fighting the blaze.

A single-engine air tanker made five drops before sunset, and crews were to remain near the burning areas throughout the night to monitor it.

Late in the afternoon, the Canyon Lakes Ranger District reported another blaze, called the Mill Creek fire, which crews will also monitor through the night.

The fire northwest of Fort Collins had burned about three acres, but no homes or other structures are threatened.
