A man suspected in numerous burglaries along a green belt in Wheat Ridge the past two years has been arrested, authorities say.

Michael James Roye, 56, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail for burglaries committed as early as 2006, according to a news release by Lisa Stigall, spokeswoman for the Wheat Ridge Police department.

“The waiting, watching and wondering appear to have come to an end for Wheat Ridge neighborhoods on and near the greenbeltthat have been plagued with a series of burglaries over the past two years,” Stigall said.

On Saturday, a Wheat Ridge resident called police about a person near 4200 Xenon St. that matched the description of a sketch of the greenbelt burglar, she said.

A police officer had investigated one of the burglaries a week earlier on Robb Street and remembered a distinctive shoe print the burglar had made.

When the officer spoke with Roye, he checked the man’s shoe, which matched the unusual design he had seen in the Robb Street burglary.

Roye, who has been living in his car, matched the description of a composite drawing made in August, Stigall said.

Roye was taken to the police station, where he confessed to burglaries dating back two years in the greenbelt area.

Detectives are working to link Roye to as many unsolved burglaries in the greenbelt area as possible, she said.
